MIDWEST KIDS (b.2021-)
Midwest kids has been a brand I’ve collaborated with solely and also with the Made to Grow program I currently direct.
Made to Grow is a youth led streetwear brand comprised of inner city kids that come directly from the Future of Fashion summer internship that I’ve led the last few years. Designing here is challenging because I’m working with a group of extremely talented teens that range from ages 13 to 17. It’s my job to help actualize their ideas, design, handle the production and also provide marketing direction. Midwest kids has allowed us to paint on their canvas. The designs range from community based, collegiate to whatever the kids are currently wearing. Production wise, we take hints from the current market and the upcoming trend forecasts. Recently, I’ve incorporated some sun dye techniques for garments to provide that vintage look and feel as well as including retro graphic aesthetics such as airbrushing that are very popular. These releases always garner a lot of attention and are also my personal favorites based primarily on how they impact the kids. It’s a beautiful thing to watch, lead and be a part of.
